Beth Davies Secondee on the Bunyoni Project

Helping implement the most recent phase of construction work at Bunyoni is exactly why I became an engineer.  My three month stint was an enormous priviliege and an experience I will always treasure.

After graduating from Sheffield University, in 2007 with an MEng in Structural Engineering and Architecture, Beth started working for Buro Happold, and was based in the London office.

Beth first visited Bunyoni School in as a secondee from Buro Happold in August 2009 to work on the Bunyoni School Project.  Among other things, she was responsible for managing the workforce, resource planning, designing rainwater harvesting systems, and building a new table tennis table with the school handy man.

Whilst in Uganda, Beth learnt to speak basic Rukiga.  She is passionate about travel, and has also worked in France and Romania.  She is an avid rugby fan, which she has played competitively, and an accomplished sculptor and seamstress. 

Beth has also spent time working as a volunteer:  She has collaborated with Oxfam to produce a booklet on the use of Bamboo in emergency situations, and has helped build a timber nursery school and community space for a rural community near Brasov, Romania.

Since working on the Bunyoni School project, Beth has returned to Buro Happold, London, where she is currently busy working on the Cutty Sark conservation project.
